The Last weekend in April of 2004, twenty or so players along California/ Oregon/ Washington's Interstate 5--all affiliated somehow with either Southern Oregon, Eugene, or Portland rugby--traveled to Missoula, Montanta's Annual Maggotfest for two days of rugby and festival. Having assembled a side from players all the way from Sacramento, California to Seattle, Washington, and several places between, the team found only one name that fit: 'The Highwaymen'. Winning all three matches against teams never previously seen, The Highwaymen established themselves as not just as a quality team off the pitch. The fun continued the follwing year as The Highwaymen defeatd North Dakota State and Ft. Collins but lost to Lethbridge. The results were similar in 2006 as the Highwaymen beat two teams and lost one to a quality Canadian side--this time, Regina. 2006 proved to be different in one very large aspect however, as The Highwaymen, for having the "best rugby attitude both on and off the pitch" took the title of most honored side bestowed by The Missoula All-Maggots themselves. Now having established the team as a consistant and quality traveling side, the Highwaymen look to expand to other tournaments including Arizona's Critterfest. Eugene, OR Rugby Portland Pigs Rugby

With sword and pistol by my side. Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade. The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five: But I am still alive. And with the sea I did abide. I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico. I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow. And when the yards broke off, they said that I got killed: But I am living still. I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide Where steel and water did collide A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound But I am still around..I'll always be around.. and around and around and around and around I fly a starship across the Universe divide. And when I reach the other side, I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can. Perhaps I may become a highwayman again. Or I may simply be a single drop of rain; But I will remain. And I'll be back again, And again and again and again and again. |
